A year before the current PM Suga, he was defeated in the PM claim.

The political crisis in Japan is over. Moderate-liberal leader Fumio Kishida will be the new prime minister of Japan. He has been foreign minister and diplomat. He worked at Credit Bank of Japan for a long time. He will replace current Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. Kishida is considered a popular reformer of the country.

He was in the fray to become the president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for the second time. Actually, in Japan, whoever is the head of the ruling party, becomes the Prime Minister of the country. Kishida was seen as the leader of the future.

Because of this, his claim in this election was strong. The faction that Kishida is representing, four former prime ministers of the country were also from this faction. Kishida lost to the incumbent Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga in 2020. This time there was a contest between 4 candidates in the party for the post of PM. That included Taro Kono, Fumio Kishida as well as two female candidates Seiko Noda and Sane Takaichi.

The difficult goal of getting the economy back on track,
Kishida will have to overcome two major challenges. The economy will have to be brought back on track due to the first corona and the party will have to be saved from the anti-incumbency wave in the upcoming general elections. Suga was made PM a year ago after then PM Shinzo Abe stepped down due to illness.
